GOLDEN
BUCKSKIN
Coat dark gold almost orange often difficult to tell the difference between the golden buckskin and the copper bay, apart from the red that is present in the hair of all bay horses, even the pale bay, the red is not present in the golden buckskin. A buckskin will have hints of gold or silver in sunlight wheras the bay will have hints of copper or orange..

BLACK BUCKSKIN (also known
as dilute black)
The coat is almost black, slate or rust over all the body. The dilute black is the darkest of all the buckskin shades, it is alos called smoked. In winter the coat could look like a liver chestnut, dun or brown but all these are incorrect.
In rare cases the Ccr gene is completely hidden and the horses look black. After looking carefully at a few of these horses you should be able to tell the difference apart from a few extreme cases.
To determine the real couleur of these horses you need to look at the breeding or a DNA test to isolate the Ccr gene.
The diluted black is sometimes confused with the liver chestnut but looking at the very bottom of the hair we can see the smoked couleur.
